If you’ve read through this site, you might be asking yourself “So, he likes business intelligence?” My pithy answer is “yep, but wait, there’s more!” I am a Southwest Ohio based professional with nearly 20 years of IT experience in a number of industries and a history of utilizing a multitude of technologies in many different roles. Like a well-provisioned, problem-solving Robin Hood, I have many IT arrows in my quiver with which I can do good.
I do not merely tolerate the demands of the business, I embrace them. Not unthinkingly, certainly not blindly, but fully and without hesitation. I recognize that when it comes to data, the business doesn’t always come to a project with firm ideas (or, to be frank, any ideas). A new widget to drive revenue, yes! Some functionality to reduce costs, of course! A new report, a tepid maybe. Discussions about what kind of data will be generated, how the data will be transformed, future data needs, success metrics, etc., are as likely to produce blank stares as helpful responses. For this reason, understanding the details of what is being asked is obviously necessary, but why it’s being asked is perhaps even more important. Options and alternatives spring from understanding and I seek understanding like an aspiring actor seeks an agent.
Inveterately curious and open-minded, I am able to keep my mouth shut when listening, but not afraid to question the “obvious” when required. I am a leader who can delegate, but is not afraid to get his hands dirty.
